In the high Andes mountains of Ecuador, the intense power of the equatorial sun beats down through thin air onto a grassland world fringed by glaciers and cloud forest. Every day is like summer, and every night is like winter. Within a 24-hour cycle, plants and animals adapt to both blistering heat and freezing temperatures--but how? Part of the Discovery Channel's award-winning Equator series, an epic production--capturing every detail in High Definition--that takes viewers on a 32,000-mile odyssey chasing the sun to some of the most extreme and diverse locations on the planet.
For much of the year the African Savannah bakes under the oppressive Equatorial sun. The dryness is unusual for the Equator, whose regions are often covered with dense rainforests and associated with a seasonless annual cycle. But the Savannah is a product of unique circumstances, of profound geological events that have combined to create a habitat for many of Africa s iconic mammal species. Thirty million years ago part of east Africa was torn apart. Massive volcanic activity combined to form the beginnings of what would be the Great Rift Valley. Over millions of years the valley widened and grew longer, spreading north and south for more than 4,500 kilometres. The resulting mountain ranges rose 3000 metres, blocking clouds coming from the west and creating a rain shadow over east Africa. The vegetation became drier and gradually the rainforests that once covered the continent began to disappear. In its place grasslands would develop, grasslands that would profoundly change life at the Equator forever.
Asia is the continent of islands: at its southern limit alone there are some 30,000 islands dashed across the watery surface of the world. On these islands, freed from the certainties of continental life and powered by the magic of islands, species multiply and diversify.

Asia's tropical rainforests are remarkable organisms that are home to a rich diversity of animals, including a unique group of orangutans who reveal fascinating newly discovered behaviour by skilfully crafting their own tools.
The Arid Heart is the story of life in Asia s dry grasslands of the Mongolian steppe, the stony Gobi Desert, and the sandy deserts of India. These are places of extreme, where summers are intensely hot and winters are bitterly cold. The animals who live here are tough and resilient, and not only survive, but thrive.
Winters in North East Asia are so cold that freshwater all but disappears. Many creatures leave, but those that remain have developed sophisticated strategies to survive the region's bitter winters, and to make the most of the short warm summers. This fascinating DVD follows Siberian whooper swans, young cherry salmon, Ezo brown frogs, the Crested Kingfisher, and more as they battle the elements for survival.
Discovery Wild Asia: Monsoon India God of Life (2002) 720p BluRay x264-WiKi English | 00:52:09 | H264 | 1280x720 | 29.97fps 8262 Kbps | DTS 1510 Kbps 48.0khz | 3.01 GiB Genre: Documentary
Monsoon - India's god of life is a fascinating chronicle of how the wild animals of India cope with the hardship of summer and how the arrival of the monsoon transforms their lives and the land they live in. The monsoon is a great benefactor that replenishes water and rejuvenates the land. But sometimes it can also overwhelm with its abundance, unleashing floods that cause death and destruction. In India's far north east, the rare great Indian rhinoceros lives on a flood plain that swings between the extremes of too little water ... and too much. Lying to the south of the great Brahmaputra river, the rhino's home is literally reshaped by the force of every monsoon. As the summer advances, and the waterholes shrink, the normally solitary rhinos are forced together into tiny wallows to escape the heat. The days drag on with little respite and tempers flare as the great beasts jostle for space. When the summer monsoon finally arrives after weeks of anticipation, it makes its first landfall not in the north east, but at the tip of southern India.
